Bikes

The most distinct design element on the P220 is the front fairing. And it's nciely stled as well, particularly the wind protector. With two ridges running longitudinally from the top and culminating on the headlamp console, the faring gives the bike a true ports bike flavour. The headlamp casing housing projector type lights itself followsa vertical stack philosophy. Rear view mirrors are fairing mounted again very sporty, but could have been a little more practical, both int terms of visibility as well as ergonomics. From top to bottom on the left: backlit switch gear looks nice, and is comprehensive as well, with an engine kill switch among others. The thicker 120/80 17 inch tubeless rear tyre adding to the bike's stability in a straight line & it looks good as stylish.

BAJAJ PULSAR 220 DTS-Fi

Style & Build:

Engine & Gearbox:

The 220 employs an oversquare engine with a stroke ratio of 0.93. The arrangement makes for an easy and quick revving engine highlighting the bike's performance. A power output of over 20 PS coming in at 8500 rpm and torque that peaks at 19.12Nm . Fuel injection in general offers benefits like better rideability, refinement and thanks to better metering of fuel, good performance with relatively better fuel efficiency. Unlike in a carburetted bike, wherein the flowing air picks up fueld from the carb and then heads into the combustion chamber, the P220's fuel injection system works based ona variety of sensors for intake temperature, cranckshaft and throttle positon, and engine rpm. Depending on the iinformation received byut he plethora of sensors a predetermined amount of fuel is sprayed into the air stream just before the latter enters the chamber.

The engine vibes are well contained, thanks to a counter balancer shaft employed. However past 6500 rpm the engine begins to sound a bit crude, andvibes begin creeping in via the tank and handlebar.

The gearbox problem in previous Pulsars have been sorted out.

Chassis & Suspension:

There is no advancement in technologies of chassis & suspension. It is using the same previous models. There is a beefed up unit to handle the extra performance as on the 200 cc pulsar. Suspension is handled by 37 mm dia front forks and coil over gar charged dampers with a elliptical swing arm at the rear. Pulsar 220 delivers first class ride quality. It handles both city and highway inconveniences effectively.

Performance & Fuel efficiency:

The bike reaches 0-60 kmph in 4.43 seconds, while the 0-100 kmph takes about13.11 seconds. Recorded top speed was 127.19kmph in 18 secs. The bike returned 36.9 kmpl in the city with this figure climbing to 43.1 on highway run.

Comments:

Pulsar 220cc is definitely worth the wait. It is going to fill all the expectations of growing indians looking for higher end bikes. It also resembles Bajaj's move towards better technology.

At around Rs.87,000 is the bike really worth the price????
